Learn to surf or catch the best wave of your life while staying minutes away from some of Nicaragua's best surf breaks.

Whether you're a seasoned surfer, have only caught a few waves and are looking to step up your game, or want to try surfing for the first time, we invite you to join this 6-night Nicaragua surf camp with our partners at Miramar Surf! On this Central America surf trip, we’ll explore the area’s consistent swells and enjoy the beauty of Playa Miramar and nearby Puerto Sandino, a sleepy, largely untouched, fishing town on the west coast of Nicaragua. Surfers have two options, the beginner package, which features surf lessons, or the advanced package, which will bring you to the best surfing in Nicaragua on a boat with an experienced captain. Both Nicaragua surf camp packages include all meals, lodging, and transportation while tailoring to your Central American surfing dreams, no matter what they may be.

Area Information
Playa Miramar, Nicaragua

This stretch of coast along the Nicaraguan west coast is home to some epic surfing and a beautiful, very low-key atmosphere. 40 minutes from historic Leon or 2 hours from Managua, the communities along Playa Miramar are close-knit and happy to show surfers the ropes of the area's amazing breaks. Be sure to also check out other local activities such as the nearby Cerro Negro volcano. From sandboarding to swimming the volcano’s cool, freshwater lagoon there is plenty to do within an hour of the beach.

Trip Planning

Trip Planning

With a general subtropical climate, Nicaragua is not as humid as other central American countries. The northern coast has an average temperature of 85 F and although it can be hot at times the Pacific usually brings a nice breeze into the area.

Nicaragua has two seasons: the rainy season and the dry season. The rainy season lasts from mid-May to mid-November, with October being the wettest month of all. It is not unusual in October to have rainstorms that last several days. Although there is more precipitation the rainy season is by far the best time to chase the best waves in the region. The swells come from the southern hemisphere and the surfing is better. Not to worry though, if you travel in the dry season, mid-November to the end of May, there will be more sunshine and still plenty of epic waves.

When packing for your Miramar surf trip be sure to follow the packing guide below and don't forget to bring cash. At least $10 USD cash to pay for your Nicaraguan entrance fee at the airport and to avoid credit card fees at the hotel, they will take USD.

FAQ
FAQ
  • How do I use my voucher once I purchase from evo?
Once you have purchased your voucher from evo, please contact Miramar Surf Camp to check availability and book your stay. Bookings must be made prior to 12/31/2023. Please do not make any travel arrangements until you have confirmed your stay with Miramar.
  • When can I travel with this voucher and does my voucher expire?
This 6-night voucher is valid for travel between 1/1/23-12/31/2023. If you have not booked or made arrangements with Miramar by Dec. 31st, 2023 your voucher and its promotional value will expire.
  • What are the accommodations like?
Each air-conditioned ocean view room is equipped with 2 queen beds, a private bathroom and balcony, a personal locker and a smart TV. Each guest has access to the ocean side swimming pool, which is Nestled on the edge of the cliff that overlooks Punta Miramar and has epic sunset views.
  • What if I'm traveling by myself?
This voucher is based on double occupancy. If you are traveling by yourself you must upgrade to a single room through Miramar directly. Single upgrades are $300 USD for garden view rooms and $420 USD for Ocean view rooms. Please contact Miramar when booking your dates to upgrade to a single room.
  • What is the food like?
All meals are included and all types of dietary restrictions can be accommodated, please just let the staff at Miramar know your needs. Each day your chefs will take your orders at breakfast so they can prepare beyond fresh meals for your lunch and dinners. Produce, meat and fish are purchased locally and everything you need for a fresh salad can be found in Miramar’s onsite organic garden.
  • What skill/experience level is required for this trip?
All ability levels are welcome, please see which package, intermediate/advanced or beginner, will work best for you. The intermediate/ advanced package requires previous surf experience, although you may not be a pro you will need to know how to navigate a number of different wave sizes and breaks. The beginner package is perfect for the first timer to lower level intermediate. It is for those that are looking for the first steps into the surfing world and for those that want to improve and take the next step. Miramar's trained surf instructor will build your surf confidence to the next level, starting on dry land and making sure you have plenty of time in the water. For more info on what trip is best for you please reach out to Miramar directly.
  • What gear should I bring for the beginner package? Do you offer rentals?
The beginner level includes everything you need to succeed, including board rentals with fins, leashes, and wax. Please note that there are little to no options for shopping so be sure to bring everything you need or think you may need, such as a rash guard and plenty of sunblock. If you are bringing your own equipment, learn more about packing and any airline fees from our friends at Surfline: http://www.surfline.com/travel/boardbag_charges.cfm?id=15425.
  • What gear should I bring for the intermediate/advanced package? Do you offer rentals?
This package does not include a board rental although boards can be rented for $15 a day. If you plan on bringing your own board, Miramar suggests that you bring two Boards. Most people like to bring their everyday board and a step up, plus although it doesn't happen everyday boards do break, especially when the swell is big. Please note that there are little to no options for shopping so be sure to bring everything you need or think you may need including a fin key.
  • When and how do I meet up with Miramar upon my arrival?
Please make all arrangements with Miramar Surf Camp, they will request flight information so they can easily pick you up from the airport.
  • What if I have to cancel after I have booked?
Once you have booked your stay with Miramar evo will uphold their terms and conditions regarding changes and cancellations. Cancellations are non-refundable but you have up to one year from your original departure date to reschedule your stay.
  • Are there any safety concerns in Nicaragua?
Nicaragua is a generally safe place to travel, as with any travel, keep your wits about you, talk to hotel staff about walking around at night and lock any valuables. You will receive private transport to and from the airport and can arrange it for other outings.
  • Are there any vaccinations that I should look into?
We recommend checking in with your primary care physician before your trip. The CDC suggests that you consider Typhoid and Hepatitis A vaccinations. Learn more here: https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/nicaragua
  • Is there an additional transfer fee if I arrive at a different time than my travel partner?
Yes, transfers are based on room, if you are arriving at a different time or different day than your travel partner an additional $90 transfer fee will be applied.
  • Do I need travel insurance?
While it is not required, we highly recommend purchasing travel insurance for all trips. Travel insurance allows you to seek reimbursement if you are forced to cancel your trip for unforeseeable reasons, or if you need to cover medical help, emergency transport, theft and/or accidental damage while traveling. We recommend World Nomads.
  • What about Covid-19?
We are optimistic that travel will continue to become more plausible with the advent of Covid-19 vaccines, but also understand that there is uncertainty about how quickly these will become widely available to all groups both in the US and abroad. We strongly suggest checking the CDC and WHO for the latest public health guidelines, and if you choose to travel while the pandemic is still underway, that you adhere to recommended health & safety measures before, during, and after your trip. Please note that currently Nicaragua requires proof of a negative Covid-19 test result (within 72 hours of departure) in order to enter the country, and that the US currently requires proof of negative Covid-19 test result (within 72 hours of return) in order to re-enter the country.

This is a beautiful camp that blends all-inclusive amenities with a nomadic, tranquil lifestyle very well. It is well run and very friendly and accommodating. The food was incredible, the aura inviting, the town quiet and the surfing stellar. We can’t wait to return!
