Area Information
Lake Titicaca

Sitting at 12,500 feet, Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world. Stratelling the border between Bolivia and Peru, it is also the largest lake in South America and a recognized UNESCO site. Beyond its impressive stats, the crystal clear lake holds deep cultural significance in the ancient civilizations of South America. Inca civilizations believed that Lake Titicaca is the birthplace of the Sun and its people, otherwise known as the cradle of the world. On this trip package, we will experience Isla del Sol, or Island of the Sun, and get to experience first hand the cultural significance of this beautiful lake and surrounding islands.

Trip Planning

Trip Planning

Be prepared for great weather in general, but with some pretty extreme contrasts from rain to sun and hot to cold. Bolivia is close to the equator, so temperatures are generally stable year-round. The Andean region of Bolivia is technically a tropical climate, which means short and beautiful rain storms followed by bright sunshine in a matter of hours. We will also be at high elevation meaning that early mornings and late evenings can be quite chilly. Our day hiking on Huayna Potosí will definitely require some warmer gear, such as a windbreaker and puffy coat. Our time exploring lake Titicaca will allow for some swimming, so bring your swimsuit! Just be sure to bring sunscreen and brace yourself for cold temps, as this high alpine lake maintains a cool temp all year.
