This sexy beast is what happens when the no-holds-barred push for speed spills out of the track and into the real world. When the best riders in the world wanted to go even faster, they came up with this smooth operator: a 215mm travel 29er that took the podium by storm (which has been rejoined by a 27.5" version for smaller riders). With plush Fox suspension and a DH-specific parts build that includes monster brakes and a 7-speed drivetrain, this carbon beauty is ready for warp speed.
Carbon CC Frame – Santa Cruz's highest grade CC-level carbon frame is every bit as stiff and strong as their C-level frame, but weighs about 280 grams less, due to the use of lighter, stronger, and more expensive carbon fiber. Santa Cruz is also able to truly integrate the shock mounts, pivot mounts, dropouts and disc brake tabs into the structure, using all uni-directional carbon plies. The shock mount isn't merely riveted or bonded on after curing, but is an integrated part of the fiber lay-up. This makes Santa Cruz's carbon frames incredibly strong and able to absorb impact better than any other frame they've tested.
215mm VPP® Suspension – VPP is based on the patented principle of having two short links rotating in opposite directions. This system provides huge design flexibility, allowing Santa Cruz to manipulate shock rates to the intended purpose and character of each model; from short travel endurance bikes to World Championship winning DH machines.
Fox DHX2 Performance Elite Coil Shock – Fueled by years of RAD development, X2 hits the sweet spot with its a linear damping profile, revised oil flow, and redesigned seals on DHX2 and FLOAT X2 shocks. The wide adjustment range gives riders the support and grip that the trail demands, as well as a more plush and open feel in the initial travel.
Shock Adjustments – High- and Low-Speed Compression and High- and Low-Speed Rebound Adjust / Spring Preload
Rear Dropout Flip Chip – Flip chip in rear dropout has two positions: short and long. Flipping the chip changes chainstay and wheelbase length by 10mm.
Angular Contact Bearings Maximize Stiffness
157mm Rear Hub Spacing
Threaded Bottom Bracket
Integrated Flip Chip for High/Low Geometry Adjustment
Fox 40 Performance – The 40's damper delivers ultimate performance and control when the going gets rough. This DH fork is just as comfortable in the bike park as it is racing the World Cup circuit, with amazing stiffness, big-hit compliance, and suppleness.
Fork Adjustments – Low Speed Compression Adjust, Air Spring Pressure, External Rebound
SRAM GX DH 7-Speed – Get all the dependability and precision of SRAM's GX 11-speed drivetrain without the gears you don't use when you're flying down hills. Compact and smooth, everything about this drivetrain has been engineered to get DH racers in the gear they need, without ghost shifting or moving around.
SRAM Code R Brakeset – Sleek, easy to use, yet immensely powerful. Code R packs a winning punch with a reliable DirectLink™ lever mated to Code’s new oversized four-piston caliper. SRAM’s signature ergonomics are supplemented by the tool-free reach adjust for a fit to each riders’ needs, to unleash Code’s superior braking power, consistency and modulation.
Avid CenterLine Rotors – The new CenterLine Rotor was designed to keep the center of friction consistent throughout rotation thereby minimizing vibration offering consistent performance and a quiet ride.
Race Face ARC HD 30 Rims Laced to DT Swiss 350 Hubs – Made to survive the big impacts found in bike parks and downhill tracks, these wheels are as tough as aluminum wheels come. When the speeds are high and consequences severe, these are magic rings of confidence.
Maxxis Assegai Tires – The Maxxis Assegai tire is named after the iron-tipped spear used by the Zulu people of South Africa. Greg Minnaar, a native of South Africa, thought it was a fitting name for a tire ready to do battle on the mountain. The tall knobs punch through dust and loam to find traction, but also offer support and confidence on wet roots and rocks. While other tires excel only in certain conditions, the new Maxxis Assegai is built to go fast everywhere.
