A workhorse of a backcountry ski for spring tours, hut trips and volcano missions, the Black Diamond Helio Recon 88 Skis fall into the "light enough to go uphill all day" but still "solid enough for confident descents in any snow" category. Eschewing the usual practice of using a superlight Paulownia core in narrower touring skis, the Helio Recon 88 uses a bomber Poplar core with full Pre-Preg Fiberglass layup - in other words, typical alpine ski construction - so you and your brain won't be caught hanging in that icy 50˚ chute.

Rocker/Camber/Rocker Rocker/Camber/Rocker skis have the playfulness and float of a rockered ski as well as the added edge hold of a cambered ski. The contact points on skis with this profile are closer towards the middle of the ski than a fully cambered ski, but still not underfoot. The cambered midsection provides a longer effective edge on hardpack, increasing edge hold and stability, while the rockered tip and tail provide floatation in deeper snow and allow the ski to initiate and release from turns easier.
