The 10 Best All Mountain Snowboards of 2022-2023 - Men's & Women's

By: Stew Langner: Snowboard Buyer | September 19, 2022

It’s always sort of a challenge to describe what an “all mountain” board is. And to be fair, part of that has to do with the fact that this category contains a bit of range in board style. One thing we noticed is, in the case of professional riders, you’re likely going to see an all mountain snowboard under their feet during a good chunk of the season. There’s a reason that Bode Merril’s, Arthur Longo’s, and a big chunk of the Burton Team’s chosen boards are on this list. The best all mountain snowboards are versatile, powerful, and they can deal with a wide range of snow and terrain conditions.

New This Year:

Unless you are a dedicated park rat, or you ONLY ride deep pow (lucky you!), you will definitely benefit from one of these Dynamic Daily Drivers. With offerings from Ride, Salomon, Burton, Nitro, Lib-Tech, Rome, Bataleon, Capita, and Arbor, plus Men’s and Women’s specific models, we’re sure there’s a rig here that will fit you just right as you're choosing a snowboard.

Ride Algorythm Snowboard 2023

Ride Algorythm

The Ride Algorythm Snowboard is a snowboarders' snowboard. Like the sport itself, from the parks it came and to the parks it shall return. But in between, it does a whole lot more. This directional twin is high performing yet approachable, blending the playful elegance of a freestyle jib stick with the casual competence of a sturdy all-mountain board. Utilizing a quadratic sidecut for easy and precise turning, plus a whole bunch of carbon fiber for dialed pop and response, the Algorythm is an easy choice for anytime styling on any terrain.

With a big size range, and three dedicated wide sizes (155W, 160W, 164W), most riders can find an Algorythm that fits their frame. Though this board is a twin shape without taper, there are areas of rocker in the tip and tail, and the stance is slightly set back. Powder, and especially jumping and landing into powder, is not out of the question on the Algorythm. This board is best for intermediate to advanced riders looking to bring freestyle maneuvers to soft snow or beyond the ropes of the terrain park.

Salomon Assassin Snowboard 2023

Salomon Assassin

The Salomon Assassin Snowboard is the type of board that can handle anything the mountain throws at you. A versatile freestyle board with a directional twin shape, the Assassin is a hybrid of Salomon's most progressive powder board and freestyle board constructions. Quadralizer sidecut is optimized for high-speed carving and the Popster Eco Booster core will give you the snap you need for maximum air. Right at home going Mach 10 on groomers, but still maneuverable enough to pick your way through tight terrain, the Salomon Assassin Snowboard is the aggressive park rider's all-mountain GOAT.

The Rock Out Camber profile is truly unique and is one of the reasons for this ride’s versatile prowess. Flat between the bindings, camber under them, and rocker outside towards the tips, means you can float through pow without sacrificing pop on hardpack. Aspen, bamboo, cork, carbon, and a sintered base? Salomon is really throwing the tech book at this thing, to great effect!

Burton Custom Snowboard 2023

Burton Custom

The Burton Custom Snowboard is quintessential Burton. Pure, unadulterated, triple distilled Burton served up neat - extra chilled. This classic, do-everything shape has attained GOAT status over the years for its sustained brilliance as an all mountain ride. Laid up around a Super Fly™ II 700G core, with woven 45˚ Carbon Highlights in the glass and full Camber for added edge hold and pop, the Custom is all you ever wanted from a daily driver.

A twin shape with a setback stance, and offered in several wide options, The Custom wouldn’t feel totally out of place in the deep stuff. With a medium+ flex rating, this year’s Custom can feel downright playful as well. Pow butters anyone? While the model and shape are old-school (tried and trusted), there is new tech inside. The Burton Custom is best for a rider looking for that classic camber feel, and who wants to ride relatively across the whole mountain with speed and confidence.

Nitro Mountain Snowboard 2023

Nitro Mountain

You don't get much more straightforward than naming your tool after your medium. And why not? The Nitro Mountain Snowboard is a straight-shooting directional ripper designed to turn molehills into mountains of fun. With a tapered shape and Nitro's Cam-Out Camber profile, the Mountain is a free-floating missile in pow and chunder alike, while the Progressive Sidecut makes for speedy edge-to-edge performance when you have a firm surface to sink your teeth into.

Out of everything on this list, the Nitro Mountain is the closest thing to a full-on powder board. The tapered shape paired with a setback stance, a stubby swallowtail, AND an exaggerated nose means this thing will really come to life on those uber-deep days. Best for riders looking to draw aggressive lines on groomers and in pow, and for all-mountain boarders riding big hills the world over. If you’ve got big feet make sure to check that waist width though. This thing will be super quick edge to edge, but if you’re rocking a pair of 12s you’ll need to size up or find a model with a Wide option.

Burton Story Board Snowboard - Women's 2023

Burton Story Board - Women's

Every snowboarding season has a beginning, a middle, and an end. It starts off with wobbly legs, excitement, and a rekindling of love lost, moves through the usual plot twists of huge storms, choking pow days, and long road trips to new locales, and closes out with a heady mix of sun-baked Spring slush and big, filled in lines tackled with the strength and confidence gained from a full season of shredding. The Burton Story Board Snowboard is the perfect vehicle for expert riders ready to do it all over again - a powerful freeride deck with high-end materials and the guts to keep going, day after day.

Let’s get into the nitty gritty; the Story Board is a tapered, directional, mostly-cambered snowboard, with a ton of high-end tech under the hood. A medium-stiff rating from Burton means this thing will hold up to hard landings, and stay locked in on powerful carves. The Channel mounting system works best with EST bindings, but most modern-day bindings are compatible. Best for powder-seeking all-mountain super-women who want to push their limits in 2022. End of Story.

Lib Tech T.Rice Pro HP C2 Snowboard 2023

Lib Tech T.Rice Pro HP C2

The Lib Tech T.Rice Pro HP C2 Snowboard is Travis Rice's everyday resort ripper. Designed to be ridden in the park and the rest of the mountain with equal ease, but to hold up to the most aggressive riding on the planet, the T.Rice Pro is a unique blend of hard-charging and playful. If you want one board you can reach for any time you're riding lifts that will never leave you feeling over-encumbered or under-gunned, this is just the thing for you.

The details are as follows: C2 Camber profile combines rocker between the bindings transitioning to camber under and beyond (Travis’ favorite profile BTW), a twin shape and flex (medium-stiff to be precise), equipped with Magne-Traction (turns ice into pow!), a slightly wider than average waist width (size down if you wish), AND a Horsepower Core (Aspen, Paulownia, laid up with tri and bi-ax fiberglass)! All of that wordy tech simply translates to a powerful all-mountain board, best for those who want to soar like Travis wherever they ride. And oh yeah, since it’s a Lib, it’s made in Washington State, and for us, that’s a plus.

Rome Stale Crewzer Snowboard 2023

Rome Stale Crewzer

We all love pow days, but some years just don't deliver. The Rome Stale Crewzer is here for the rest of the time when you're more focused on landing that 360 than getting first tracks. The Fusion Camber and Twin Carbon HotRods are poppy and responsive and impact plates dampen chatter on days when you just want to rip some corduroy. The SinterStrong base is fast and easy to repair too, so you can push this daily driver to the limit no matter the snowpack.

Now you can read all the tech descriptions you want, but the proof is really in the pudding. In this case, “Stale” doesn’t mean like bread (or like a stalefish for that matter), it means like Ståle Sandbech, a pro rider for Rome. This board is a part of his custom three-board quiver, and if you aren’t familiar with what he can do, do a quick Google dive to find out. Quite simply, if it’s good enough for Ståle, it’s good enough for us!

Bataleon Whatever Snowboard 2023

Bataleon Whatever

Whatever, whenever — the Bataleon Whatever Snowboard is an all-mountain monster, ready for hot laps, cliff jumps, and anything else you have in mind. 3BT™ uplifted sidebases carve like butter and float like a dream, and the directional shape with a twin profile brings the best of both worlds.

This board is full camber underfoot, so you can have maximum pop and carve power, but the 3BT (Triple Base Technology) means you can take it in the deep stuff with confidence as well. We would recommend this board to pretty much any level of rider, as it strikes a nice happy medium in terms of flex, user-friendliness, and solid tech when you want to push the envelope. Ditch the quiver and grab the one board that can truly do it all.

CAPiTA Mega Mercury Snowboard 2023

CAPiTA Mega Mercury

The CAPiTA Mega Mercury Snowboard takes the all-around versatility of the already popular Mercury and slathers it with extra sauce. Laid up with a super poppy core, this capable deck is amped up and slimmed down with Capita's Megacarbon™ Array and Megalite Skin™ for lightweight performance that allows you to take flight in any situation. Add in a new warp speed Moonshot Omni-Tune™ and you've got a board destined to thrive in both natural and manmade environments alike.

The Mega Merc sports a slightly setback stance with a mostly camber profile. There are areas of reverse camber in the tip and tail, and that’s the reason you may see this board on the feet of high-flying freestyle-focused powder-riders this coming season and beyond. If you’re still not convinced, cruise by the product page and read the rave reviews coming in from all kinds of boarders.

Stew Langner

Hey y’all! My name is Stew Langner, and I’m the Snowboard Buyer here at evo. A little bit about myself… I grew up in Michigan where I learned to snowboard on golf courses and in my grandma’s backyard.  My love for boarding brought me out West. The first spot I landed was Tahoe City where I worked at resorts and shredded 100+ days a year. Eventually, I discovered the wonders and POW of the PNW, and I moved to the Seattle area about 10 years ago. Upon arriving in Seattle, evo became my home base as I landed a job selling boards in the flagship store. Over the years, I worked my way up the ranks at the shop and eventually into the evo office on the Merchandising team. Now as the Snowboard Buyer, I strive to bring the latest & greatest in the snowboard world into evo – all while managing to still get my days on the mountain 😉
